Gov. Eliot Spitzer is expected to tackle key NYSUT issues such as education and health care in his first-ever State of the State address Wednesday, January 3. NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi will be in attendance for this historic event, and NYSUT will be covering the address on NYSUT.org and in New York Teacher, NYSUT's official publication.
Spitzer, the former state attorney general, has inherited a host of pressing education and health care issues, such as the need to increase funding for needy school districts statewide; a charter school system that requires serious reform; and ill-conceived calls to privatize public hospitals administered by the State University of New York.
Check back at NYSUT.org during the week for detailed coverage of the address.
