The Warwick Valley Teachers' Association awarded $10,000 in scholarships to seven high school seniors at Warwick Valley High School's recent awards night ceremony.
The students were selected through a competitive application process. “Each recipient has proven to be a well-rounded young adult who earns high marks in academic classes, participates in sports, arts, music, extracurricular clubs and activities; volunteers; and has worked to become a valued member in the school district and community,” the Warwick Valley Teachers' Association said in a press release announcing the awards.
One of the evening's largest donors, the local awarded three $2,000 scholarships created in honor of three inspiring teachers who passed away during their teaching careers in the Warwick Valley School District. Additional $1,000 awards were also given. Money for WVTA's scholarship fund is raised through various fund-raising events throughout the school year.
The WVTA is just one example of the many NYSUT locals that annually present scholarships to graduating seniors.
