While teaching, I was one of three teachers who began our county's mathematics tournament for junior and senior high students. It's a one-day, annual event that attracts as many as 106 teams from up to 36 school districts. Since retiring, I have taken the role of director. Together with a retired high school math teacher who now works at Suffolk Community College (my co-director) and the assistance of many currently working classroom teachers, we handle all the aspects of this event. We need seven months to be ready for this event. Then, about two years after retiring, I joined the Sierra Club as, amongst other things, a teacher and manager for the outdoor program. That's me in the picture pointing to the park kiosk and explaining some of the natural features of the park. Apparently teaching is in my blood!
