This October, thousands of people are taking to the streets to fight against breast cancer, and NYSUT will be walking beside them. Each year, NYSUT members walk in solidarity with breast cancer survivors and their loved ones during the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events, which take place across the state.

In accordance with state law, districts from Long Island to Buffalo have adopted distraction-free learning policies that prohibit student use of cellphones, smart watches and earbuds during school, and educators and administrators agree that the new bell-to-bell restrictions have not arrived a moment too soon.

NYSUT response to reports that ESEA funding will be released 

NYSUT President Melinda Person released the following statement in response to reports that the Trump administration plans to release the almost $6 billion in funding to public schools that it has withheld for nearly a month. The decision follows a lawsuit NYSUT joined alongside a national coalition of school districts, parents, teachers’ unions, and nonprofit organizations demanding the release of the funding.
