Voters across the state approved 96.5% of school budgets - 654 passed and just 24 were defeated. Of the
twenty-four districts that experienced a budget defeat, seventeen were attempting to pierce their Tax Levy
Limit and therefore needed a super-majority (60 percent) for approval. Twenty-five districts were successful
in their Tax Levy Limit override attempt.
The twenty-four districts that had their budget defeated may choose to have a revote. All revotes will occur
on the third Tuesday in June (June 17, 2025).
If a district chooses to not have a revote and therefore moves directly to contingency budget or has their
budget revote defeated, the district must then adopt a contingency budget. The respective district may not
increase their tax levy above the previous year's levy—a zero percent cap on the tax levy.
The following chart provides a listing of those districts that had their budget defeated.
