Teachers looking to fund classroom project ideas and school or facility improvement projects may apply for grants from the Lowe's Toolbox for Education program or the Kids in Need Foundation.
Lowe's approves up to 1,000 grants per cycle. There is a preference for funding requests that have a permanent impact such as facility enhancement (both indoor and outdoor) as well as landscaping/clean up type projects. Projects that encourage parent involvement and build stronger community spirit will be favored. Grants range from $2,000-$100,000.
Applications are accepted from Aug. 3 to Oct. 16. Visit http://responsibility.lowes.com/apply-for-a-grant/ to download an application.
The Kids in Need Foundation offers mini-grants ranging from $100-$500 that are sponsored by retailers, manufacturers and credit unions. Available grants include the Elmer's Teacher Tool Kit Grants and a grant from JoAnn Fabrics. The grants are available to certified pre-K-12 teachers from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Applications are available on the KINF website each year from July 15 to Sept. 30.
Awards are based on the creativity and educational merits of the projects.
