Make strides to help fight breast cancer

This fall, NYSUT hopes to surpass once again the $1 million mark in donations for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks.

NYSUT members have raised more than $10.5 million since 2002 for the American Cancer Society’s campaign to fight the disease with research, information, services and access to mammograms for women who need them.

Breast cancer is the most com­mon cancer among women in New York state. The state Department of Health estimates that 15,000 women are diagnosed with the dis­ease each year, and 2,700 women die from the disease annually.
