It's an honor
Clifford Forziat, Herricks Teachers Association, and Isaac Ramaswamy, Sachem Central TA, were recently inducted into the New York state chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Ramaswamy and Forziat received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.
Rebecca Stephens, Fayetteville-Manlius TA, has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar. Stephens will participate in a weeklong history workshop on "Slavery in the colonial Chesapeake."
Yvonne Allen, Horseheads TA, and Leah Penniman, Tech Valley, received 2014-15 Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching. Penniman will spend six months in Mexico writing curriculum and helping craft projects for use in schools. Allen will travel abroad to conduct research on her capstone project, "Is the United States losing a generation of music makers? What U.S. schools can learn from Finland."
United University Professions Stony Brook chapter members Larry Frohman and Oyeronke Oyewumi also received Fulbright awards. Oyewumi was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Grant for teaching and research in Harare, Zimbabwe. Frohman will complete an intercountry lectureship in Germany.
Elyse Zucker and Susan Dicker of CUNY's Hostos Community College received a $5,000 Learning and Leadership Grant from the NEA Foundation. The members of the Professional Staff Congress will lead workshops on how to implement more inclusive, student-centered writing classes for ESL students.
