NYSUT celebrates Black History Month and Women's History Month with two free posters.
The life and accomplishments of Ralph D. Abernathy are celebrated on a poster illustrated by NYSUT staff graphic artist Mark Sharer. Abernathy was a pastor and civil rights leader who helped launch the American civil rights movement.
Additionally, the Share My Lesson team has highlighted some free lesson plans, worksheets and activities to help teachers celebrate African-American History Month in their classrooms.
The union recognizes Women's History Month in March with a free poster highlighting Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an American social activist, abolitionist and leading figure in the early women's rights movement.
Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments, presented at the first women's rights convention in 1848 in Seneca Falls, is often credited with initiating the first organized women's rights and suffrage movements in the United States.
