It's an honor

Maurice Kenny, United University Professions – Potsdam, retiree, is one of seven members of the 2014 class of inductees into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame. A Mohawk poet, Kenny is widely recognized as a pivotal figure in American Indian literature from the 1950s to the present. Other inductees include Russell Banks, Mary Higgins Clark, Alice Hoffman and deceased writers Nora Ephron, Rex Stout and James Thurber.

Kevin Peterman, president of the Faculty Association at Suffolk Community College, received the John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award at the 2014 League for Innovation in the Community College conference. These awards celebrate outstanding contributions and leadership by community college faculty and staff. The award was given in part for Peterman's lobbying in Albany and Long Island to support the programs at Suffolk County Community College.

Richard J. Van Ness, Retiree Council 39, has partnered with Fine Art America and launched a website, www.confluentartwork.com, which displays his photography work ranging from colorful images captured in the Adirondack Mountains and Florida Everglades. Two hundred photographs, including extreme color collages of everything from alligators to zebras are presented for viewing and prints are available for sale.
