Why I chose this book: Travels with Gannon & Wyatt: Egypt is the third installment in a fictional series based on real life, adventuresome twin brothers Gannon and Wyatt Wheeler. After exploring Botswana and Great Bear Rainforest, the brothers are now off to Egypt to take part in an archeological dig for Cleopatra's tomb. This is a perfect book for students looking for adventure, and for those who want to learn more about Egyptian history.
What I like best: This book does a great job of bringing Egypt to life for young students. While reading you begin to feel like you are actually exploring Cairo, Luxor and the Nile along with Gannon and Wyatt. Students will love the facts, trivia, photos and drawings that can be found throughout the book.
How teachers can use this book: From the endearing and likeable characters, to exciting adventures of sand storms and booby traps, this book has an excellent way of engaging students, which is very appealing to reluctant readers. Teachers can also access videos, photos, book trailers and educator's resource guides on the Gannon & Wyatt website: www.travelswithgannonandwyatt.com.
About the authors: Patti Wheeler has been traveling since she was a young girl. Keith Hemstreet is a writer, producer and co-founder of the Youth Exploration Society.
