Elementary and secondary school teachers and librarians are invited to apply for summer workshops to study the Erie Canal or Shaker sites.
Hurry! The deadline to apply is March 4. Space is limited.
All participants receive 40 hours of professional development credit and a $1,200 stipend to cover their expenses.
"Clinton's Ditch: The Erie Canal in Western New York" and "Heaven on Earth: Shakers, Religious Revival and Social Reform in America" are one-week, academically intensive workshops sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and hosted by Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, Niagara County, and Siena College in Loudonville, Albany County.
The one-week Erie Canal workshops in Western New York run from July 21-28 or Aug. 4-11. The Shaker workshops in the Capital Region run from July 7-13 or July 14-20. Both include trips to historic sites and interaction with scholars.
