Donations needed to help disaster relief

Source: NYSUT United

Since its creation eight years ago, the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund has distributed more than $1.8 million to individual members and organizations.

The fund was set up in 2005 for charitable purposes to help union members after natural or man-made disasters. Most recently, it has provided grants of more than $600,000 to nearly 2,600 members whose homes were destroyed or damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The union's commitment to aiding members who have been victims of disaster dates back to at least 1998, when an ice storm devastated the North Country.

More help is needed.
