Jeffrey Rozran
Jeffrey Rozran, Syosset Teachers' Union president and member of the NYSUT Board of Directors, died April 7. He was 65.
An English teacher since 1973, he loved the profession as much as he loved his union and his family. He focused his life on fighting for the welfare of fellow teachers and on his students.
"Jeff was truly the finest example of an excellent teacher, activist and leader," said NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi.
Rozran was first elected to the NYSUT Board of Directors in 2002. He was also a member of the Long Island Federation of Labor's executive board.
Rozran is survived by his wife, Luanne; his stepdaughter, April Kaufman; and his sisters, Marcia Turbiner and Ellen Matis.

Christine Garcia, cherished paraprofessional at Midtown West School from 1989 – 2010, passed away on Oct. 16.
Christine was a hard worker. When the classroom teacher was out, Christine would carry through the day's routine - a substitute's dream. Christine loved reading books aloud to the class. Working mostly in special-class settings, Christine was firm, yet patient, helping to keep each student's skills parallel to mainstream.
Christine generously hosted holiday parties for staff, at her home. Deviled eggs were her specialty! She organized our Sunshine Fund for several years, then, served as UFT Paraprofessional Representative at our school, until her retirement.
She was a wonderful paraprofessional, daughter, sister, and aunt. She is deeply mourned and will always be remembered.
