Buoyed by the strong support of organized labor, including NYSUT members and staff, Verizon employees ended their two-week strike after the company agreed to go back to the bargaining table.
The 45,000 members of Communication Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers delivered Verizon a strong message — Don't mess with our collective bargaining rights and hard-won progress on the job.
"We appreciate the unity of our members and the support of so many in the greater community," the unions announced in a joint statement.
"Now we will focus on bargaining fairly and moving forward." Negotiations reconvened in early September.
