Disaster fund needs your help

Donations to NYSUT's Disaster Relief Fund are urgently needed to provide direct assistance to members after the devastating floods that ravaged communities throughout New York.

To make a tax-deductible donation, go to http://www.nysut.org/ or send a check, payable to NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund, to: NYSUT Headquarters, Attn: Jeff Lockwood, Accounting Dept., 800 Troy-Schenectady Road, Latham, NY 12110. Note "Storm Relief" in the memo line.

If you are in need of assistance yourself, or want to help others, please reach out to your local president or building representative to see what your union might be doing to help members in need.

If you are in the 12 counties of the Greater Capital Region, consider calling 2-1-1. The number connects you to the United Way's referral service for community assistance and volunteer opportunities. The United Way of New York State has established a dedicated fund, the Hurricane Irene Recovery Fund [http://www.uwnys.org/].

The Northeast Regional Food Bank needs financial donations to help with the shipping and handling of major donations of food. Checks can be sent to the Regional Food Bank, 965 Albany-Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110.

Donations to the American Red Cross can be made by calling 800-733-2767, or online by visiting the website for your local Red Cross chapter. To find your local office, visit http://www.redcross.org/ and enter your ZIP code.
