NYSUT statement on passage of Proposition 1 to support small city school districts

Yesterday, New Yorkers went to the polls and by a massive 65% to 35% voted YES on Proposition 1 to remove small city school districts from special debt limitation.

NYSUT President Melinda Person released the following statement on voter support of Proposition 1:

New York has spoken and Proposition 1 has passed! This is a win for equality and opportunity for over 200,000 students in New York’s small city school districts.

Thanks to all the NYSUT members who turned out to vote. When we come together, we make strong public schools that are the centers of our communities.
