ALBANY, N.Y. Aug. 20, 2021 — New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta issued the following statement today congratulating Liz Shuler on her election as president of the AFL-CIO:
“This is a historic day for organized labor. Congratulations to Liz Shuler on her election as president of the AFL-CIO, breaking yet another glass ceiling by becoming the first woman to lead the federation. We also congratulate Fred Redmond on his election as Secretary-Treasurer, becoming the first African-American to hold the AFL-CIO’s No. 2 position. We look forward to working alongside both to defend and expand the rights of all workers and further the labor movement.”
