SUBJECT: NYSUT Alert – RA Contingency Plan
In light of the rapidly developing circumstances surrounding COVID 19, the numerous school closings across the state, and the Governor’s Executive Order and CDC recommendation banning gatherings of 50 or more, the officers and I have recommended to the Board of Directors, and they have approved, the postponement of the NYSUT Local and Retiree Council Presidents Conference and the NYSUT Representative Assembly scheduled for April 30-May 2, 2020, until a later date to be determined by the Board of Directors.
Additionally, we will be cancelling or postponing all non-essential meetings and conferences in all regions through May 15, 2020. These difficult decisions included consultation with experts at the NYS Department of Health, our NYSUT staff, and the NYSUT Elections Committee.
Our most important duty remains ensuring the health and safety of our members, NYSUT staff, and the families and communities they serve. We will continue to work with NY State and county officials and the elected leaders of our union to determine the best course of action to meet our governance responsibilities, including NYSUT elections, as outlined by the NYSUT Constitution and federal labor law.
