Message to members of New York State & Local Employees Retirement System (NYSLERS):
Last night, Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order 202.18, which, among other things, waives the fifteen day waiting period in place when filing for a service retirement application with NYSLERS.
This change will enable any NYSLERS member who has passed due to COVID-19 after March 7, 2020 while the application was on file, but not yet effective to collect the full retirement benefits they are entitled to.
This change will effect our SRP members, our higher education professionals and other NYSUT members who are part of NYSLERS or are subject to this waiting period under Retirement and Social Security law.
