It's time to stand up for public workers all across New York!
Too often, public employees are treated like scapegoats and second-class citizens. We have a great opportunity right now to do something about it by passing two bills to amend the civil service law to expand and guarantee public workers' rights and protections.
S.5205/A.7624 would ensure a fair and impartial due process hearing for all permanent employees, including NYSUT's School Related Professionals in school districts and many others across the public service spectrum, who are the subject of disciplinary charges.
S.5291/A.7248 would give recall rights to labor class employees and local government non-competitive employees. This means that when public employers decide to fill vacant positions following a reduction in the workforce, permanent employees who were laid off, such as our School Related Professionals, would be given preference in filling these positions before any other eligible candidates are appointed.
Not only are these changes to the civil service law necessary to ensure justice and fairness for public employees... they are simply common sense!
Please take action now!
In solidarity,
Andrew Pallotta
NYSUT President
P.S.: Fairness & justice now! Take action to stand up for public employees all across New York!
