ALBANY, N.Y. May 24, 2018 — New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta today congratulated the union’s largest higher education affiliate — United University Professions — on reaching a tentative agreement on a new six-year contract.
“UUP’s more than 35,000 members have every reason to celebrate today. This tentative agreement demonstrates the importance of having a union in the workplace. The salary increases, paid family leave benefits, new minimum starting salaries for part-time academics and other enhancements will better the
lives of UUP members and their families, as well as make SUNY a more attractive place for faculty and professionals to work and for students to learn. Make no mistake, the collective voices of UUP members standing together as one enabled the negotiating team to stay strong and win this agreement. On behalf of all the NYSUT officers, I congratulate UUP President Fred Kowal and his entire team for, once again, showing UUP members why it pays to stick with the union.”
New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
