ALBANY, N.Y. Jan. 3, 2018 — New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta issued the following statement following the governor’s State of the State address:
“The onslaught against New York — and working New Yorkers — from Washington is very real. We are in a fight. We share the governor's message of protecting the middle class, unions and local taxpayers from harm. In areas like expanding voting opportunities, combatting sexual harassment and enacting protections for college students to ensure they are treated fairly by lenders, the governor will have NYSUT’s support. As we look ahead, the federal budget and other threats from Washington present an array of challenges to all New Yorkers. As we begin the legislative session, we are confident that the governor and Legislature understand that investing in New York’s public schools and colleges, and its public health care institutions, must be a priority.”
New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
