ALBANY, N.Y. Dec. 11, 2018 — New York State United Teachers President Andy Pallotta released the following statement today on the naming of Sen. Shelley Mayer as chair of the Senate Education Committee:
“Through her years in public office, Sen. Mayer has been a champion of students and educators, and has demonstrated a keen understanding of what works in public education — and what doesn’t work. We look forward to working with her and the entire Senate Democratic Majority to move an agenda that benefits our students and our public schools,” Pallotta said. “As New York looks to consign its broken testing and evaluation system to the ash heap of history — and return teacher evaluations to local control, where they belong — Shelley Mayer is the right choice for this moment in time.”
