ALBANY, N.Y. Jan. 5, 2017 — New York State United Teachers said an expanded child care tax credit proposed today by Gov. Andrew Cuomo would be a tremendous help to middle-class New Yorkers, including thousands of union members struggling to pay day care costs.
NYSUT said in a statement:
“The high cost of quality day care is a challenge that many NYSUT members face. For working families, any help paying day care bills is appreciated. The governor’s proposal to enhance benefits for middle-class families by expanding the child care tax credit is a step in the right direction that would tangibly help teachers, nurses and others who work in our public schools and colleges, as well as tens of thousands of other working families. While we await more detail, we support it and look forward to helping make it a reality.”
New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
