ALBANY, N.Y. Nov. 23, 2015 - Christopher Black of Clifton Park has been named director of
legislation for New York State United Teachers.
Black has been on the staff of the union’s Legislative and Political Department for 17 years, the last five
as assistant director. In his new role, he will supervise and manage the department’s staff of legislative
representatives, analyze legislative proposals, help shape NYSUT’s legislative positions and oversee the
union’s lobbying efforts.
“Chris brings to this important position the experience, skill set and temperament to meet the political
challenges before us,” said NYSUT President Karen E. Magee. “He is a strong advocate for all of our
members — those working in schools and on college campuses, and in health care facilities and human
service agencies — and he has a firm grasp on the legislative process in both Albany and Washington,
D.C.”
NYSUT Executive Vice President Andrew Pallotta said: “Chris can hit the ground running. He already
has the respect of our staff and has fostered good working relationships with legislative leaders in both the
Senate and Assembly, as well as with staff in the Executive Chamber. His enthusiasm and work ethic will
serve our members, and all who care about our members and who they serve.”
New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education,
human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the
National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
