How much has your district lost to the Gap Elimination Adjustment?

NYSUT Research and Educational Services has compiled the GEA data for every district.

You can download it here in the Excel format.

The Gap Elimination Adjustment, or GEA, was first enacted in the 2010-11 fiscal year to help close New York's budget deficit. Under the GEA, a portion of the state's funding shortfall is divided among all school districts in the state based on a formula and each district's state aid is reduced accordingly.

In the five state budgets from 2010-11 through 2014-15, New York's schools have collectively lost billions of dollars to the GEA.

NYSUT is urging state policymakers to eliminate the GEA now - especially with the state projecting a budget surplus over the next three years.

It's time to end this built-in reduction in aid to schools.
