NYSUT marks 2014 Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15-Oct. 15, with a poster celebrating the contributions of Dolores Huerta, a labor and civil rights activist who founded the National Farmworkers Association in 1962 in partnership with fellow activist Cesar Chavez. The organization was later named the United Farm Workers of America (UFW).
Huerta has lobbied for many California and federal laws, and received numerous awards, including the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights from President Bill Clinton in 1998, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2012.
