There are many AFT and NYSUT legislative priorities for the new Congress that began in January. Among them are the AFT building program (see related story) and the "21st Century High-Performing Public Schools Facilities Act.
State
The upcoming legislative healthy schools agenda includes school maintenance funding; requiring the New York Comprehensive High Performance Schools design guidelines for all new school construction and major renovation; requiring new schools be sited on environmentally healthy land; improvements to the green cleaning law and reduction of pesticide and herbicide use on school playing fields.
