Marianne Hegge
Marianne Hegge may only be in her eighth year of teaching, but she has already made a tremendous impact for the Western Sullivan United Teachers and School-Related Professionals. That's why Hegge has been named NYSUT's inaugural recipient of the 2007 Sandy Feldman Leadership Grant.
Hegge, a high school English teacher, serves as new member committee chair for her union and is secretary of the WSUT&SRP Benefit Trust and the WSUT&SRP Scholarship Committee. Hegge also is a graduate of the NYSUT Leadership Institute.
The Sandy Feldman Leadership grant is being made possible through the generosity of Arthur Barnes, the husband of the late Sandy Feldman, who served as president of the United Federation of Teachers in New York City and the American Federation of Teachers, one of NYSUT's national affiliates. The grant of $2,000 will be used by Hegge to further her union training and activities.
