Arlington Teachers' Association

  • participating in and raising over $20,000 for the American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life
  • sponsoring "The Breakfast Club" which provides healthy breakfast to children

  • raising over $5,000 for the March of Dimes "Blue Jeans for Babies" campaign

  • contributing $17,700 to Dollars for Scholars
  • contributing $2,000 to the Acres Foundation, a Civil Rights Program
  • sponsoring the Bay Shore Senior Citizen "Senior Prom
  • contributing $3,500 to the Bay Shore Community Summit

Bayport-Blue Point TA

Depew Teachers Organization

  • raising $3000 for the Depew-Lancaster Boys and Girls Club
  • awarding $1500 in scholarships to graduating seniors
  • donating to local youth organizations
  • raising $1220 for the American Cancer Society

East Hampton Teachers' Association

  • raising $935 for Sloan Kettering Memorial
  • organizing fundraisers for four families whose homes were destroyed by fire
  • organizing and supporting fundraisers to benefit the family of an ill child with expensive medical needs

  • collecting clothing and household necessities for needy families
  • raising over $3,000 for the Breast Cancer Walk
  • holding an annual Senior Brunch for senior citizens

Faculty Association/Suffolk Community College

The Faculty Association/Suffolk Community College considers community service to be an integral function of their local. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • contributing $2,000 and 15 volunteers to Habitat for Humanity's Day of Building
  • raising $4,860 for the COC Affordable Housing Raffle
  • collecting 7 cartons of new books for children at Hope House and local homeless shelters

  • donating funds and supplies to Rotacare, a free medial clinic on Long Island

  • donating to needy families during the holiday seasons

Fredonia Teachers' Association

The Fredonia Teachers' Association consistently evidences a belief in service to the community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • sponsoring the annual FTA Holiday Drive, purchasing, wrapping and delivering holiday gifts to students
  • sponsoring the Youth Run in the Billy Bead ALS 5K Run for Research
  • sponsoring the Senior Citizen Ball
  • sponsorship of two summer soccer teams

Harrison Association of Teachers

  • donating $2,000 to Food Patch which assists needy families
  • distributing backpacks and school supplies to 20 students in need
  • participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
  • providing over 150 children with winter hats and mittens

The Hempstead Classroom Teachers Association has been dedicated to supporting its community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • conducting Immigration Law Education Program to assist Hispanic residents in the community
  • organizing Winter and Spring clothing and coat drives
  • awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors pursing a degree in education
  • participating in the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Walk

Hewlett-Woodmere Faculty Association

The Hewlett-Woodmere Faculty Association has been dedicated to supporting its community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • sponsoring 2 Hewlett-Woodmere Little League teams
  • contributing to the Susan G. Komen Race For a Cure as well as "Sandie's Bosom Buddies" Walk for a Cure
  • helping in-district teachers through your Teacher's Helping Teachers Fund
  • awarding scholarships to students who positively contribute to the community

Johnstown Teachers Association

Kathryn Zajicek

The Johnstown Teachers' Association considers community service to be an integral function of their local. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • awarding two students $1000 scholarships for each of their four years of college and $300 to two alternates
  • helping to finance the building of the Fulton County YMCA
  • participating in the March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon
  • promoting literacy through the Books for Babies Program

Kings Park Classroom Teachers Association

Newfane Teachers Association

  • awarding a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior entering the field of education
  • sponsoring an Annual Theme Basket Auction to benefit Niagara Hospice
  • sponsoring an Annual Toy Drive for Community Food Pantry
  • sponsoring a June golf day with the proceeds going to a needy family

Niagara Falls Teachers

The Niagara Falls Teachers have continued their efforts to improve the quality of life in their community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • contributing 200 hams/turkeys plus over 150 food baskets through their Annual Holiday Food Drive
  • supporting the Coats for Kids Program
  • donating over $30,000 to the United Way
  • awarding six $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors

North Babylon Teachers' Organization

The North Babylon Teachers' Organization has been dedicated to supporting its community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • raising over $13,200 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
  • collecting 800 boxes of sundry items for U.S. soldiers overseas
  • conducting an annual Toy and Book Drive for needy children
  • financially supporting community sports teams and leagues

North Bellmore Teachers Association

The North Bellmore Teachers Association has been dedicated to supporting its community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • providing awards to select graduating seniors
  • coordinating a tee shirt sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity
  • supporting and participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk-a-Thon
  • donating new books to the local chapter of The Food and Nutrition Network

North Tonawanda United Teachers

Linda Roach

The North Tonawanda United Teachers considers community service to be an integral function of their local. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • awarding scholarships and savings bonds to outstanding seniors, 8th graders and 6th graders
  • donating $500 to Breast Cancer Awareness
  • donating $300 to sponsor both a pre and post-Prom Breakfast
  • contributing toys to Toys for Tots and turkeys and non-perishable food items and money to the North Tonawanda Food Pantry

  • purchasing and distributing $30 gift cards to needy families

Oceanside Federation of Teachers

  • donating $1,000 in supermarket gift certificates for needy families
  • organizing an annual Toy Drive providing toys to various community organizations

  • awarding $9,000 to deserving high school seniors
  • sponsoring a Toys for Tots Drive
  • distributing childrens books to community agencies and homeless shelters
  • donating $2,000 to Westchester Children's Hospital

Yorktown Congress of Teachers

The Yorktown Congress of Teachers has been dedicated to supporting its community. In 2006 they demonstrated this by:

  • raising $1,812 for the Children's Hospital in Valhalla
  • collecting 4,800 pounds of food for the Yorktown Community Help organization
  • donating $2,353 to the Support Connection which helps individuals and families affected by breast and ovarian cancer
  • awarding three $1,000 scholarships to Yorktown High School graduates
