NYSUT, SUNY and community colleges team up on courses

The Education & Learning Trust, NYSUT’s professional development arm, now has partnerships with several public colleges to offer NYSUT members the opportunity to save money when taking certain courses that can be applied toward degrees.

ELT has teamed with SUNY Stony Brook to offer the university's Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program, which fulfills the degree requirement for permanent or professional certification.

NYSUT members complete six of the required 33 program credits through ELT at ELT's tuition rates. The remaining credits are completed online at the SUNY tuition rate, and the matriculation fee will be waived for qualifying NYSUT members.

ELT also has formed a partnership with Empire State College to offer an 18-credit program designed for teaching assistants who need 18 undergrad-level credits as a term of employment. The program will be taught by ELT, but can be applied toward an undergraduate degree at Empire State College, a SUNY institution that arranges independent study and distance-learning courses and degrees.

ELT also has partnerships with SUNY's Ulster Community College and Genesee Community College to offer several three-credit online courses. In a partnership with Mohawk Valley Community College , ELT offers some MVCC courses at various locations around the state, typically on weekends and at times convenient for professionals.

If you believe your college would be a good partner for ELT, feel free to contact ELT staff by phone at 800-528-6208 or via e-mail at eltmail@nysutmail.org.
