Participants will leave the Mathematics and Literacy Institutes with instructional strategies, information, and materials they can use in their school districts, schools, and classrooms to improve teaching and learning and help close the achievement gap.
The year 2006 saw the first administration of the grades 3 - 8 mathematics tests. There is still much to be learned from those test results and the 2007 Mathematics Institute will give teachers an opportunity to hear from an education leader in mathematics on making mathematics more meaningful in the classroom. In this era of NCLB accountability and high stakes testing, with several achievement gaps highlighting inequities in student performance in our state a common response is that the students lack reading skills.
